Our music can be described as a wild fusion of ska, punk, and Balkan folk energy — an explosive blend we call “speed-folk freak-punk.” Our sound draws deeply from Eastern European and Gypsy melodies, colored by folk strings, distortion guitar and fast-paced rhythms that keep audiences dancing nonstop. During the 16 years of our band existence we’ve written many songs from all different genres, what connects them is our really deep friendship, the joy of playing music and the respect of our traditions.
Our music is what happens when Eastern European folk music gets drunk with ska and punk and starts a street party.
Many fans describe our live shows feel like joyous carnivals of chaos in a Hungarian style. What makes it unique is rooted in our tradtitions. The history of Hungary had many bitter decades so most of our songs has a duality we call “bittersweet merrymaking” we try to forget and process our grief by singing and dancing together.
To implement this energy of live shows to our studio is almost an impossible task, some songs just doesn’t work when you listen them alone other folk ballads are much better at home but cannot play them during shows. These are two separate worlds fits well in our music.
I think yes, we have a much closer relation with our audience in smaller clubs. There we are on our own, everyone came for us so we’re glad to see them and they’re glad to see us. I prefer these shows because we have time to meet with our fans, especially abroad when we could talk about the cultural differences, discover a whole new country the best way possible: by meeting the locals. Of course we need big festivals too, as that’s the place when we can attract new music lovers, and they offer us funds to start playing in a country far away. For me big stages are playgrounds where I can run up and down and try to reach everyone like in a small club, at least here I won’t push the musicians around me.
For me, China is a jewel box waiting to be discovered, with so many exciting experiences to discover. During these three tours, we’ve only scratched the surface what really happens in China. We’ve played in small clubs, music halls, big festivals and I loved them all. We have the craziest moments, the experiences of extremes, when you don’t know what you order in a restaurant and sometimes it’s the best food you’ve eaten, sometimes you cannot recognise a single spice in it. Sometimes you’ve got the best hotel you’ve slept in your life, then you must take a sleep-train and lay down in bed of a Chinese man you’ve just got off the train.
Before COVID we’ve came to China for three consecutive years, we’ve seen that Chinese people really like our music, there are great festivals here and we enjoyed it a lot. Not many bands plan to play here because in Europe we know nothing of the Chinese music market. Fortunately, we kept in touch with our concert organizer during the lockdown. We knew we had to try to come again and we are so happy that with the help of the Hungarian Embassy, we can make this tour again. I cannot wait to taste Sechuian pepper in Chengdu and Beijing duck, and to see these good punk clubss, surf communities etc. I hope that this is the beginning of our friendship with Chinese fans and after this reintroduction tour we can come back here soon.
The ska-punk scene is huge everywhere in the world, it’s a very close-knit community and helped us many times abroad. Of course we would love to play at local ska festivals, they are our core audience in Europe as well, they know what our music is about. I haven’t heard about Chinese ska-punk bands but we’re always open to do cooperations, cover songs together with locals. During our concert we don’t have improvisational songs, what usually works is finding a song what everyone knows and play it together. Or just jam in the backstage and have fun together, exchange ideas and do something together in the following years.
